Wednesday 6 December 2017, North West Durham Constituency Labour Party hosted a discussion with Professor Allyson Pollock regarding the NHS Reinstatement Bill in Consett. The NHS Reinstatement Bill proposes to fully restore the NHS as an accountable public service by reversing 25 years of marketisation in the NHS, abolishing the purchaser-provider split, ending contracting and re-establishing public bodies and public services accountable to local communities. This is necessary to stop the dismantling of the NHS under the Health and Social Care Act 2012. It is driven by the needs of local communities. Allyson also discussed her part in a judicial review that aims to stop Jeremy Hunt from "Americanising' the NHS. I recorded the event so that people who were unable to attend could hear what Allyson had to say.
As a kid back in the 1980's and 90's I loved traveling all the way up to the top of Weardale to visit Killhope Lead Mining Museum. To be honest I wasn't that excited by lead mining, or water wheels, or even underground mine trips. For me what was special was the taste of wilderness, of adventure and the sense of escape into nature that being up at Killhope gave me.
